It has been estimated that in Finland, around 40% of all the emergency calls come from mobile phones. How many lives could be saved by providing the location of the caller? Emergency solutions in the USA are actually driving the technical development of location-based services. There, mobile operators have to be able to provide the location of the caller in the future. Because of this, all the operators are installing location technology as a part of their network. In the future, location-based emergency services will be an integral part of mobile communication.
Security solutions are targeted to a limited group of people in an occupation or situation where location brings increased security to the individual. Night watchmen and policemen are able to use location technology for higher security. This way, their current position is always known and, in the case of accidents or emergencies, additional help can be sent directly, without having to determine the location of the person first.

Case: Matrix Vehicle Tracking
Matrix Vehicle Tracking has been very successful in tracking stolen vehicles in South Africa. Based on CellPoint’s technology, a small GSM transmitter is inserted into the car. In a case of hijacking the transmitter can be activated and positioned. The average time to track down a stolen vehicle has been 40 minutes and over 90% of all the stolen cars with the transmitter have been recovered. This translates to over 1700 vehicles during the past 3 years.
